    Description

COLORADO SPRINGS & CRIPPLE CREEK "SHORT LINE" CS&CC RAILROAD on DEVIL'S SLIDE PIKES PEAK, COLORADO
Gold mining interests in Cripple Creek built this line to compete with the existing Midland Terminal Railroad to the ore refining mills in Colorado Springs. It was built on the south slope of Pike's Peak and opened in 1899. A decline in mining activity and competition from the Midland Terminal caused the line to close down in 1920. It was converted to a toll road -- Corley Mountain Highway -- with toll booths at both ends (1926).
Format 3.5 x 5.5 inch. Nicely colored card.
