SHELLI SEGAL PRE-LAUNDRY!
This vintage mid 1980's velvet and brocade blazer was designed by the late Shelli Segal for the brand Leo, a company known for "Junior-Contemporary Gear".
The proportions are so hip and trendy Eighties! It is marked MEDIUM
I used to wear this with a lace-ruffle-front puffy shirt and skinny jazz pants (before we called them "leggings") with pumps. Great for clubbing in those days!
Shelli Segal is a very interesting designer. She began very early in NYC when her show biz parents moved the family from Dallas, TX where she was born. An accident in the woodworking shop while pursuing an art degree at SUNY - Purchase caused her to quit college and pivot her focus to fashion. The family moved once again, in 1981, to further the career of Shelli's brother, Robby Benson, this time to L.A. There Shelli jumped right into the West Coast fashion scene designing for Leo, among others. In 1991 Shelli was asked to join the team at Laundry and in 1992 was made Head Designer. Shelli Segal passed away in 2020, she was born in 1964.
